WHAT: The Number Nine Road bridge which crosses a tributary of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River in Susquehanna Township, Cambria County, will be renamed the Petty Office Iral William Stoltz Memorial Bridge. Stoltz, who was born in West Carroll Township, was one of eleven sailors killed in action in 1941 when the USS Kearny was attacked by a wolfpack of German U-Boats while escorting a convoy.
Petty Officer Stoltz received a purple heart, along with the combat action ribbon; WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
WHO: Members of the Stoltz family will be in attendance.
